Hornady announced it is now offering 5.45 x 39 boxer brass for the ak 74 round along with reasonably priced reloading dies. check out midway for backorders on brass and get notification on dies . According to phone call with hornady both should be available mid January. Beats forming your own or reloading steel cases happy day!!

It would be nice if they made 7.62x45 brass for all the CZ52 SHE carbines that came over 20 or so years ago....

I agree! I'm getting tired of fiddling around trying to convert and reload berdan steel cases in this caliber.

There are both dies and brass in stock at Brownell's today.

What's the bullet diameter on the 5.45?

I was once hot to experiment with a CZ-52 rifle chambered for the 7.62x45 SHE round. It turns out 6.5 & 7.35 Carcano and 6.5 Mannlicher-Schonauer cases have that intermediate case head dimension which are compatible for direct conversion. I don't recall where, but I saw an ad for Carcano cases not that long ago. Hornady, maybe?

The bullet diameter of the 5.45 by 39 mm is .220"- by far the worst feature of the cartridge.

GONRA hopes BOTH 7.62x45 Czech and 5.45x39 AK-74 brass projects both verk out.....
Not sure how long it will be before its time for me to "hang it up".
(Lost Track of the times I tried to torque Starline into making 7.62x45 Czech brass!)

Just got my hornady brass and those boxer brass cases look like little jewels. I bought a bunch of 5.45 bullets from midway that were match quality for peanuts a while ago, and. I just bought 1000 bullets from Hi Tech https://hi-techammo.com/search?type=product&q=5.45+bullets for 40 bucks for a thousand! and about to grab another thousand.

I measured the bullet above the case in various factory ammo years ago with a micrometer and believe some of it even exceeded .224", so was left with the impression if one had cases he could probably just load American .224" jacketed bullets.
