I have had nasty Migraines and other head aches for the last month +
But Monday I had nerves in the back of my head "Fried" and yesterday I had Botox injected in my forehead
So I am starting to feel better .... 2 months and the Botox will wearing off :(

So Dad and I went out for Ohio's deer gun season this morning
He took the Winchester rifle in 45/60 and I took the BFR in 45/70

He had a 300 gr soft lead cast bullet at about 1300 fps
I had a 400 gr 2 part cast GC bullet ( soft nose over a hard base ) at about 1300 fps

He had several does walking past him about 8 AM and he picked the closer of the 2 .... maybe 25 yards out
A nice double lung shot and the doe fell about 50 yards from his stand

I had to wait till almost 9 AM before I had a shot
LOL I had lots of deer close , but they all were there 1/2 hour or so to early

About 9 AM a doe was headed from the corn field to a thick area in the woods
But she stopped about 50 yards out and gave me a easy shot
Best part she ran right down the lane at me
But didn't make it to me

I gutted out both of our deer , loaded them on the ATV's and we drove the 1/2 mile home
I had them skinned and partly boned out by lunch time

Dad is done as he has taken 2 does , but I can still take 1 more deer , either a buck or doe
So I might head back out in the morning
As my ego wants a nice Buck to brag about LOL

Sounds good to me, I would much rather eat a nice doe than an old buck, don't eat antlers.

How did the homemade soft point perform? ( other than having done the job). Good work.

Congrats to the two of you.
I'm guessing that the 2 part boolit was not especially slowed down passing through the deer you shot!

Congratulations John to you & your dad on taking 2 doe's together, great fun! I used a soft nost cast in my Ruger 480 to take my Idaho bull moose, worked great at about 45 yds, in one side & out the other & down in 30 yds or so. Good luck with those headaches.

How did the homemade soft point perform? ( other than having done the job). Good work.

IMO The soft nose expanded
But as there wasn't any bones other than ribs
Telling how much is hard to say

LOL The big reason I used them .... I had them cast and they shot well
So I figured , use them
