I am going to cast up some 22 caliber boolits for my .223 Savage 340C and need some load suggestions for it because I havnt shot this boolit before. Im just looking for plinking rounds and nothing supersonic and any help would be appreciated. Heres the stuff im using,
Savage 340C in .223 Remington,
Henslet & Gibbs #11 mold. 22 caliber 45gr. RNGC.
I have the following powders in stock,
Alliant Unique, Alliant Bullseye, Pyrodex Select, IMR4350, Hodgdon Varget, IMR4895 and IMR4198.

Unique -- 5-6 grs and you've got a great plinker.

I use it in my AR for a single shot squirrel popper with LEE's 55gr BATOR. Doesn't cycle the action but is very nice on the squirrels. Quiet too.

You've a good potential cast bullet rifle there as the twist is 14" or 12" at the quickest. Agree with unique for a plinking load. Try 5 to 6.5 gr in about .3 gr increments. Velocity will run from 1650 up through 1950 fps. I like 4 gr of Bullseye for a Hyper velocity .22LR equivelent load; should be around 1550 fps out of your rifle. Might want to try 14 to 20 gr of IMR 4895 if you cast them on the hard side and they fit the throat well.

I load for my ruger m-77 with unique 6.5 gn it shoots well for plinking and target shooting..
but when it comes to hunting small game at a distance give 11.5 to 12.5 gn. of imr 4227. just cast your boolets on the hard side.
i have used this load with good results. cronoed at 2100 fps
i have also got a couple af deer with this load

Sammy, Is the big charge a compressed charge or does it fit in the case?

12.5 gn of 4227 comes close to compressed charge but will fit in the case..

I have a stock Remington 700 .223 caliber. I use the RCBS 55 grain GC cast bullet sized to .225" using 8.0 grains of Unique which develops 2,100 FPs with a Std Deviation of 14 FPS. It is very accurate and IMHO beats the .22 Mag hands down. I tried many loads and bullets over the years and this is the best load I have every come accross for thsi caliber.

if you bump up to 8 grains of unique you will be about 2100 fps and it will cycle your ar
