According to Roy Jinks' 'History of Smith & Wesson' your 631XXX S/N was made in 1965, however, the S/N should have a 'K' prefix.

He has a model of 1905 4th change, not a post war gun, if I read his post correctly. Given that it is chambered in 38 S&W, and not evidently in 38 S&W Special, my best guess is early 1930's. (1931-1934).
