I was at a gun show today and picked up one of these for $AU200. I feel it is nickel, but it sorta looks like stainless, however the barrel looks like it is one of those old nickle barrels that thin down in front of the action. I think it is probably a snubnose 357mag as the cylinders look too long to be 38s and the bbl says 38.....

It probably was a snubnose and had an old longer bbl put on it when the last gun laws came in (under 4" banned for anything other than defence/security use, and the armoured car/payroll guards seem to be the only guys that carry guns these days (apart from the crooks and the cops).

I don't think it has seen much use, cock the hammer and it locks up like a bank vault.

And yes, I forgot to take pics. :( I have a permit ready so I will pick it up soon.

My Mod. 64 is a 2", and is .38 spl. If the bbl on yours has been swapped, someone may have reamed the cylinder to .357 at the same time, or swapped cylinders, dunno. Mine shoots very well, I hope yours does too.

The Model 64 is just the Model 10 (M&P) in stainless steel.

I carried the Model 10 for the best part of 23years, although the issue ones had a 3" heavyBbl. This lil' gun will go well in the duty gun shoot of the NSW Police Games and similar matches.

I looked at a picture in one of the 'History of Smith and Wesson' books that I have and found a Model 64. It has the slimmed down barrel like mine. They called it the Model64 Military and Police.

With this in mind, I think I will sleeve it (as in sleeve it alone!) :)

I was going to pick it up, but I am pretty much restricted to my home town for the next few weeks as I have an infection in the bone (toe) and am hooked up to a drip which needs changing daily. I might have to spring for some freight. I was going to take a run up on the moto ciccle, but I guess I'll have to re-direct the funds to tghe freight company.

Here is my M64 with a 3" tube. I'm able to shoot quarter size groups at 12yds with it all day long....well, that is, until I run out of ammo.

I have a Mod 65 with a 4" heavy barrel. It is very similar to the 64, its just in 357mag instead. It is my favorite wheelgun.

I used a Model 10 at work for years, they had the 3" HBar like Joel's and the Academy bought some 64's just like Joel's with that nasty finger biting round grip. Nice old guns, they'd do the job if you held your end up.

Lawdy knows why I didn't take a pic when I bought it.

Great revolver, FFD! I carried and used a 4" M-64 HB on my first sighting of The Pachyderm in 1981, and it gave fine service. I agree completely that the tool will hold its end up if the operator does likewise.

I was fortunate enough in June of this year to run across a Model 10 x 5" courtesy of another member here, and I am glad to say that it places Lyman #358429s right where the sights are looking at 25 and 50 yards. This is the third 5" S&W K-frame now in the gun safe, and I enjoy them all.

The K-frame 6-shot 38 Specials aren't tacticool--they don't hold 20 rounds without a refill. They just work, and have for over 100 years--which might be why they have been in uninterrupted production since their emergence on scene in 1902, faithfully and capably doing their bit without fanfare.

Same here, AL. 'Cept the year was 1993. Gun was a new in the box Detroit Police stamped M-64 (NIB sold off by DPD when they went to Glocks) with the 4" HB. Shot a 243 out of 250 possible in the academy with it. My department only had 9mm ammo available for issue; but we provided our own guns at the time, and all I owned was the M-64. The gun shot perfectly to the sights with the Cor-Bon +P+ 158 grn LSWCHP (1,000 fps) load I carried in it. That combination sure did inspire confidence the first time a situation went south in a hurry.

Wish I still had that wheeler.:( Sold it off after I bought a Ruger .40 to carry at work.
