I´ve been watching videos on how to make boolits molds; I´ve seen they use self centering vises but can´t understand how the halves of the mold are held in place, it looks like they are pinned by steel rods..I can´t really see (understand) how its done, why not simply bolt the halves to the vise jaws? I´m not talking about the alignment pins but the way the mold is held in place during milling

Simple, you turn the handle and both jaws close at the same time. As I get it have the alignment pins not set in one side. Leave them about almost touching both holes they provide the alignment when the cherry is gradually cutting the mold cavity. Those vises ain't exactly cheap but they do make things easier. Frank

In one of the older Lyman manuals (60's or 70's) it had a very detailed description of the tooling they used. I am doing some remodeling so my library is mostly boxed up. When I unpack it I will try to find it.
