I have owned a Marlin 444 for many years, but not as long as a friend who has one with the Monte Carlo stock that predates mine. Also, I recently found a H&R Handi-Rifle barrel (just the barrel, never been fitted to a rifle) in an estate sale. It came home with me and I fit it to a Handi-Rifle I own that is 30/30 caliber. The handloaded ammo I assemble for this barrel runs at the same chamber pressure as 30/30 pressure level. Even with this reduced pressure level the rifle delivers more boolit energy than our deer appreciate.

I have a Marlin 444P with a Redfield 4x wideview Denver mfg. 265 gr. J-word and IMR-3031 gives me 1.5" at 100yds.for 5 rds. 240gr. HP/XTP is just as good, love this rifle.

Same here. Recently I have been shooting light loads with plain base 250-260 gr. SWC. CB's with excellent results plus good feeding. MV's have been running up to 1300 fps without leading but MV's around 1150-1200 are great fun to shoot all day. I have been using 5744 powder but am about to try a Red Dot load with a magnum primer for about 1200 fps. Such a load is more than adequate for deer out to 100+ yards.

i use a 3-9x leupold(cuz i had it and it was doin' nuthin') on my 444. i did 200gr - 300gr and it was mild and it was wild. my new deer/black bear load is 300gr fn gc with 24.0gr of 2400/dacron(1624fps).

I run a Burris 2.5x fix power scope on mine. It has held zero for over 20 years and many hundreds of loads. You'll see how well Vortex secured that big heavy 44mm objective lens.
