Has anyone had good success using cast boolits in the 7mm Rem Mag?
If so I would like to hear from you
thanks

There are surely far better cases for launching 285 dia slugs than the RM case. Its capasity far ans away outclasses general 25k limits for good cast bullet accuracy.

7-30 comes to mind as about perfect.

But consider the source. ;). I shoot .360 / 190 WFN from my Norma Mag @ 1700 when my Maxi shoots them at same and higher velocities with less powder and lighter a gun. :)

Not in 7Mag, but I played around with cast in a buddy's .300Win Mag. and it did OK.

But we concluded that with the potential of the .300, and what it was designed to do-
Shooting cast in it compared taking out the 500 horse power 454 big block 'rat motor' from your Corvette,
and replacing it with a 230 cu.in. in line six cylinder with its one barrel 'bug sprayer' carburator.

That would certainly make that cartridge more fun to shoot!

Yes, I have other 7mm's to shoot cast with (7x57). I was just wondering if anyone had tried, with success, loading for a 7mm Rem Mag.

While not the preferred launching pad for a CB, there are loads in the Lyman cast bullet handbook for it. SO- you have your assignment. Report your findings HERE. The closest I've come to that is cast in a 25-06 and it worked ok.

Search the archives. We've batted this around several times years ago here and on the old Shooters board.

My best success was with the RCBS 7mm-168-SP and IMR 3031. I have not gone back to it, because there are some many better options for cast boolit launchers. My take on the whole thing was too big a boiler room and too short a neck. However, it did work.

I suppose that if one wanted to powder coat some boolits, that might work a little 'mo betta'. My testing was long before I ever started PCing.
