Im looking for a mold for the 44 American.

bullet head should be between .429 and .434. Heel should be about .410

I have a 44 colt mold but its far to large for the 44S&W American.

Does anyone know who makes or has made such a mold? Where should I be looking? Ive had no luck in my searching over the past months.

any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Try looking at DIXIE GUN WORKS. They probably have the exact item you want, but not at a discount price.

Buffalo Arms would prbably be a better place to look. They're specialists in black powder (and obsolete) caliber items.

Try looking at some of the firearms importers' sites also.

sportee: RCBS used to offer a .44 American mould in their special order section but last I heard they have discontinued it.

I have one but sold my .44 American Smith & Wesson. Send me a private e-mail if you're interested in it. Include your e-mail address or phone number.

Old West may very well make a mold too.

AAAAAnd until you get a mold you chuck a .432 boolit into your drill ( or whatever) by the nose and with a double cut file turn down the base for a tight fit into the case. OOOOOOr slide the boolit base first into the proper sizer with the nose sticking out. Support the base so it cannot move and smack the nose with a plastic hammer. I loaded my 41 Colt for several years this way... Crude YES but you would be surprised how accurate those slugs were out to 25 yards.... these hoglegs were made for UP CLOSE and personal. Pure lead and Black powder and you are in Buisness. I lube my Black Powder boolits here with 50/50 bees wax and olive oil. Shown are boolits for my Colt New Service 44-40 hand globbed with my lube. Smells far better than the 50/50 stuff I use for smokeless ... axle grease and beeswax. The beeswax / olive oil also works good on chapped skin..water proofing leather.. canvas... I would not use it profusely where bears could be found.

Thanks for the info.

Im actually using a 44 mag bullet pushed in backwards at the moment...it does the trick but its not very nice.

cooincidentaly, I shoot 41Lc as well. I have a heeled mold for it and have a friend that casts some HB bullets for me as I need them. I have done a lot of work with the loads and have got about the same accuracy between both bullets...IMO 2" groups at 25 yds with a 130 yr old revolver and a heeled bullet isnt bad:-D

Check out Old West Bullet Molds. I know they have the other heeled bullet molds, they probably have that one.
