Here is me trying out a friends S&W 500. I had to try it single handed!

The 500 compared to a 7 1/2" Super Redhawk:

Didn't kick as bad as Ive seen in videos and read about. We shot a lighter load at 330gr RNFP at 1350 fps. He had a few 400ish hollow point 1900 FPS rounds and they kicked a bit harder though.

I've shot the 4" version and can't say as I ever wish to repeat the experience.
I notice a Bersa in the pic as well.....380?
What you feeding that little popper?
I have one in 380 that shoots pretty well with 95 grain swc's over a light dose of Red Dot.

Good eyes! It is my wifes Thunder 380. I use the Lyman 356242 90gr RN bullet over 3 gr of Bullseye.

We both are very pleased with the pistol. Picked it up last December for $240 new at the Crossroads of the West gun show in Phoenix.

Not as much as a .357 from the video. Big, heavy gun with ports and a super light load.

I'm not a fan of heavy recoil. I'm too old, have too many old injuries and took too much abuse from my dirt bike days.

The S&W 500's are so comically LARGE that they look like something Wiley Coyote would use on the Roadrunner........... "ACME .500 Super Magnum".

10X......Happy to make someone laugh in these SAD Obama times.

Met a kid the other day who bought a short barreled .500 Smith privately that came with a few boxes of shells. He was out of shells, didn't reload.... and almost died when he was faced with twenty factory shells for FIFTY bucks!!

He was trading it in on a .454 Casull......not a lot cheaper.

I've got an FA M-83 in Casull with a 2nd .45 Colt cylinder. Hell a 325 gr LBT in a Colt case at 1100 fps went right through an ELK!! Christ! How much MORE does one need?? Can't understand this .475/.500 craze. Reminds me a bit of the Weatherby craze many years ago, or the Ultra Mags of today. People that have to have the fastest/biggest/largest etc.

http://www.lectlaw.com/files/fun19.htm Wiley Coyote vs Acme product Liability Suit!!! PRICELESS!!

Nowadays anything that doesn't push a 400 grain boolit at over 1300fps is just a popgun.
You need boolits the hardness of cement, pushed to wrist snapping velicities if your gonna butt shoot elk at 200 yards I guess.
I consider my hunting pistols to be a sort of a loud bow, and hunt accordingly.

An old hunter ( Michigan ) told me years ago " Get closer"... I guess out there in the bushes today we have regiments of shooters and to few hunters.. But on the other side the advances in hand held lazer sighted boolit slingers is one way to keep the industry going and the wrist doctors well vacationed. I never thought I would read that a 44 mag was boring and underpowered for hunting... and I shoot the lowly 41 mag.
Well you just wait.. one day I will complete my tests on a rocket assisted arrow!!!

Ben there, done that. Wish I had a video camera at the time. Made NASA look smart.:drinks:

Also tried the rocket assisted shot cup.

One reason I fell for the .475 is the super accuracy and almost complete lack of it's refusal to shoot about any boolit I have. It is so easy to work with. When I miss, the boolit still goes exactly to where the sights were at any distance I shoot. Not counting drop of course but the drop is way less then the .44 at 200 yd's.
It doesn't kill deer any better then the .44 but is just plain fun to shoot.
