Not with cast, but it was an archery-only hunt so go easy...lol. I haven't taken an animal with a bow for a long time, so this was pretty exciting.

Congratulations!

Looks like a lot of meat there and also a lot of work cut out for you. I'm surprised it's still that green up there now.

Unseasonably warm temps. I'm normally ice fishing by Thanksgiving, but that won't happen this year.

Congrats!

We only got whitetail bow legal here a couple of years back. There has been talk about moose becoming legal, too but the experts say that you can't kill a moose with a bow.

Wow... very cool and well done!

is that archery season a new thing for the Mat-su valley? of course its been 20 years sense I left the Matsu, but we had no archery only gig's when i lived there.. it was 50in 3 browtines sorta thing... of course those were the days of the fairgrounds being surrounded by farms and valley hospital was in Palmer...

Congratulations fine bull and lots of good eating to come. Nothing wrong with bow hunting. I took my elk this year with a bow. Thanks for sharing.

Oh I had to travel outside the Mat-Su for this hunt. This was an Any-Bull tag, but had a spike/fork or 50 inch/3 brow tine bull walked in my yard, I could have shot it with my bow (in Sep).

RugerFan, that is fantastic. That thing is huge. I'd be interested in knowing the approximate weight. I guess the only way to handle anything that big is to quarter it up and take it out in pieces. I'd be impressed if you used something like a 375 H&H, but with a bow, I'm really impressed.

When I lived in Alaska I did a lot of big game hunting with the bow. I got drawn for a cow tag on Elmendorf AFB. I followed this big cow around for almost the entire day, before I got a shot, it was getting dark, so it was shoot or go home. I had a 60# Martin Long bow and 700gr. hand made arrows. The shot was 65 paces, longer than I usually liked to shoot, after the shot the moose walked about 50 yards and started walking in circles and then she went down. The arrow had gone through both lungs and stopped on a rib on the far side. We were able to drive the truck right up to the moose, a pretty easy butchering job.

I will not tease anyone that can kill any wild animal with a sharp stick.
