Need help identifying what Contender I have. The pictures shows it to be a slick side contender
In 44 mag (10") with a 2 to 6 Bushnell.
Serial number is 185 ###. Has push through firing pin selector.

Do me a favor? Look at the front of the hammer please. If I'm thinking right, you will see a slot for a flathead screwdriver, which is how you actually select CF or RF. The push through tab you're looking at is the safety, IIRC.

It does have the screw head.
Thanks

Looks like an early flatside frame. Ive got a later TCA flatside that is an easy open frame. Nice score! Ive always liked the look of the flatsides better than the cat sides.

That's my preferred Contender model. I use one for hunting from a tree stand and the extra safety in the hammer is sweet. I can leave the hammer cocked while I sit. Especially convenient with a scope where the hammer is more difficult to thumb, and it's quiet. It's a worthless feature at the range, but great for hunting.

Years ago some guys used that hammer safety for dry firing. and soon turned it
into a mushroom making the hammer useless.

I've never been a contender fan, but I do remember that was about the price of one in the early 1980s. So you got a good deal!

Glad I haven’t lost all my marbles, yet. That is a great gun. Mine is the version after this with the selector on top of the hammer. Hope yours shoots at least as well as mine.
