Used to use this powder before I got out of 9mm. Son is getting a 9mm for carry but I can't find my notes on what powder charge I used. Bullet is Lee 120 TC which I used before. Still have about 1.5# of 473 and figure this is a good opportunity to use it up.

Do you mean Winchester 571, which later became Hodgdon HS-7, and is now discontinued?

No, this is a "vintage " powder, probably from the 80's. Got replaced with WSF. Have a bunch and was using it up in the 45 and 9mm and lost my notes on the load I was using in the 9mm.

I've been reloading since 1963, and I don't remember that powder designation, and can't find a reference to it. That doesn't mean it didn't exist. I just don't remember hearing anything about that one.

Hope this helps.

I have a can of Winchester 473A from 1985. I marked the can 473AA = Hodgdon HS-5 after extensive web searches. (The names Rocky Raab and wiljen come to mind.) I use it for my chuckar hunting loads. Winchester didn't publish metallic data for 473AA that I could find, but Hodgdon did for HS-5. Best do your own searches with some of these terms to confirm or deny my errors. Consider PM.

Thank you, that's what I needed. Had made a note of the Speer data in my notes but did note if it was for jacketed or cast.

You’re welcome, sir. That book has let me use up some of these old, outdated powders left over from my skeet and trap shooting days!!! Got some of the old Winchester pamphlets and some OLD Hercules and IMR booklets. Comparing them side by side, some are different some not. I suggest you look on amazon and get you one of these fine old books! Low as $12. Good luck to ya.( got a bunch of 473 and 452 also.) I’ll shoot it up eventually I guess.

One of these days I just might have to use up the 1/8 pound of 473AA I still have.

I shot a bunch of 473AA in my 12 gauge reloading days. It was an easy powder to work with, but never used it in any metallic loads.
