I'm looking for some really heavy (400gr or heavier) 44 Cal boolits to use for subsonic loads with a suppressor on a single shot 44 mag. Any suggestions? Or better yet anybody got a few I could buy/sample?

Thanks

What is your barrel twist of rifling? Unless 1:20" or faster you can forget about stabilizing a 400-grain boolit.

1:20"
22" barrel, it's a CVA Hunter.

I have an Accurate Mold 43-405P and a 43-500P mold. I don't know what your time frame is, but I am going to do a casting session next week. I can cast 50 of each and powdercoat them (Smoke's powder).

Sounds like a fun project. I'm currently working on a heavyweight (300gr) .357 Maximum suppressed with a Liberty Infiniti-X. It is based on a Contender G2 frame.

PM me if you are interested.

Middle: Accurate Molds 43-400P - Lead w/a bit of Tin - Smokes Blue - Cast, Coated & Sized (OAL 1.11 X .431 - 415gr)
Right: Accurate Molds 43-500P - Lead w/a bit of Tin - Smokes John Deere Green - Cast, Coated & Sized (OAL 1.34 X .431 - 505gr)

Meat, Awesome Boolits! I shot a few and so far the results are promising. I have more testing to do, but it's safe to say these are the maximum length/weight a 44 can handle without custom reaming. I am loaded to the rifling on my CVA and only some cases will work. One would think with the rona going on I'd have more time for the important stuff like shooting and testing, but seems like I am busier than before!
I can't find my notes on the HP that was bumped up or the other 400gr, guess I'll have to do some searching.
Below are the notes I have from my spreadsheet
Both the 500gr PC and the Beartooth 405WFN stabilized. Shot 10" and 7" high at 25yds (respectively) but the 500gr was single hole for 5 shots
The 500gr was loaded to 1.91" OAL (rifling engraving on nose) with 10.8GR of Lil Gun. Quickload says 18,772PSI chamber pressure
The 405gr beartooth was loaded to 1.786" OAL with 15.0GR of H110. QL says 22,756 PSI chamber pressure.
As expected, both show greater than 90% powder burned so should be very quiet, I just have to load up some more and take my chrony this time

A thread from a couple of years ago:

Take a look at post #7 for Dr. Richard Gunn's subsonic .45 Colt boolit design.

My thought was to have Accurate make the same design in .44 but so far haven't gotten to it... like many ideas I've had. I did use a 3D program to scale it down and it weighs just over 400 grs. at .44 cal.

Looks like you've already had success but it never hurts to have options. Dick Gunn's design might be a good one for you too.
