It followed me home. The black powder frame has been discontinued and passing this one up would have been a mistake.

3rd Generation. It’s .44-40, I have a cylinder and a barrel for it in .45 Colt’s but right now nothing is going to be changed while I enjoy it as is.

Very nice! 44-40s and 32-20s are my favorite, with special regard for the 7 1/2”. Thanks for sharing, it’s a beaut!!

My .44-40 rounds have been cycling perfectly through my new Winchester Miroku ‘73 but I use the Lee Factory Crimp die on my .38-40 rounds and it works great. So I bought a Lee Factory Crimp die in .44-40 too. Haven’t tried it yet. Looking forward to trying it for the new Colt’s.

Yesterday the new Colt’s got an airing out.

Playing cards at 25 yards as a point of aim resulted in groups about 8” high using the Desparado .430” 200 gr. boolit with a middle of the road dollop of Trail Boss.

These rounds were loaded up for my Winchester ‘73 .44-40 which has a .430” bore and 24” bbl.

Two (2) of the fifty (50) rounds did not chamber in the Colt’s. These rounds were full length re-sized using a steel RCBS sizer die. My loads were roll crimped to prevent the boolits from being compressed in the tubular magazine. Winchester brass is used because Winchester is the thinnest and the chamber pressures are low and the chambers are tight.

I am confident that using the Lee Factory Crimp die will result in no more failure to chamber issues.

The trigger is atrocious. My gunsmith will work is magic “filing down the dog” as they called it on the frontier.
