This is early for this big of a snow, hope we get more this winter to replenish the lakes. The farmers just planted their wheat so this will be good for them and the deer.

Summer finally broke here in East Texas.
Now we're at the time of year when you run your heater and air condition both during the same day.

Well, at least we will be just a few days past a new moon (Oct 27), on opening day (Nov 2). That + the rut hopefully kicking off, should keep the bucks moving during shooting hours...

At least it goes away right soon for you Texas folks. We will now be getting that stuff until at least March & the Cold to go with it.

JB, you are too much the optimist. Folks over here are thinking late April.

Haha! I hope I am correct & they are not, in that prediction.
;)

We have had a lot of rain & although it is getting old from so much of it, plus the farmers are suffering for it not being able to get the crops out like they would want to do, I like the idea that I don't have to shovel rain. If that rain becomes snow, then we will get a lot of snow & I don't relish the thought of dealing with it in excess.
Time will tell though~

Some places: For hot & dry, cold & wet, cold & dry, pouring rain, a few inches of snow-- you have to add it all up and wait for several months.

Here, we can give it all to ya in about 4-5 weeks.
With a side of left over snow in the shade, and 80 degrees while you stand on the sidewalk in a T shirt looking at it.
One year we did it all in 2 weeks.

Does 5 inches shut everything down in Texas? Do city departments prepare with salt and sand? I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't with as little as that state gets. It'll slow things down here in Mo for sure, but not shut us down.

We snow skied behind a pickup on a dry lake bed once or twice. We don’t do snow well here but ice is the worst. For all my life in NCT I only remember a few hard winters. And that’s fine!

I've been in a few snowy places. Fun to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. It's not for everybody but I'll stay with the heat and occasional hurricane.

If it just snows, that is sort of like driving on a dirt road.

Here, we normally get rain that freezes. It makes sheet ice, no way to drive on that.
I've never seen a snowplow in Texas, but they sand the main roads and bridges when ever they even predict freezing rain or ice.

WOW, just cold and windy here in Center Point. Went out to dinner in shorts and T-shirt. Front came through while we were eating. Cool walk to the car but sure glad there wasn't any snow!

Had the heat on this morning and the a/c is on now here in northwest Florida or as us natives call it LA (Lower Alabama)

I have been told that Texas is so big it has more than one climate North South East & West & I believe that.

It really does.
The odd things is that there is sort of like sharp lines separating them.
For example, the weather in Dallas is noticeably different than Ft. Worth.

From the Western edge of Dallas, you can look to Ft. Worth; the trees & bushes are different,
the land- dirt & rocks are different, and they get noticeably less rain.
It's common to see storms in one city, that don't travel to the other
even though the downtown areas are only about 35 miles apart .

As a kid, we lived in El Paso. I think it rained about 10-12 inches a year, and it all came in one day too.

We had lots of lightening storms, they were a real show,
lightening bolts would go from horizon to horizon, but it never rained.

I was working up in Sunray when it hit. Prediction was 1", maybe 2. Ended up being closer to 6. Fortunately, I didn't get stuck on the southbound side of 87 heading into town.
