If that is the bullet I believe it to be then it is a PB bullet of about 195-200 gr? If it is then if cast of WWs or harder alloy try 9-11 gr of Unique in 1/2 gr increments. That should give between 1200 and 1400+/- fps out of a 20" barrel. The 12" twist of a M94 (you don't say what rifle) should still stabilize that bullet fine at that velocity. Let us know your results please. BTW; if you keep the base of the bullet at or above the base of the case neck it might be a single feed round as the AOL could be too long for magazine feed given a M94 or M336.

I think its a squib type 190gr. lead base but not positive. Its going to be shot in a Savage 340C bolt action rifle.

Mike:

It's a 196-gr. spire-point, plain-base bullet originally designed in 1911 for the .30-'06 and used by P. J. ("Paddy") O'Hare for some fine shooting before WW I. Front two bands are bore-riders. Dropped in 1939, then re-introduced as #311280 (no real change, just revised sizing recommendation) 1972 - 74 as a special-order item. Should be fine in the box-magazine Savage 340, but I wouldn't trust it in a tubular magazine Winny or Marlin.

Is there any way to find out what year it was made? This is the one piece style with the handles as part of the mold. Its just stamped with 308280 on one side and Ideal Mfg Company, New Haven Conn. on the other side. Its doesnt have the makers initials like others I have seen and wondering why there are none after the number? Another odd thing I noticed is the spru plate end that you hit to cut the spru. It has just a curved top that goes around in like a funny c shape and doesnt have the balled type end of the spru plate as my others do. Any ideas?
