I read somewhere that someone, I think it was Harris said, that when using cast bullets in
the oversized 7mm military mausers, it was best to use a bullet a couple thousands under size
bore diameter but to use a gas checked bullet. Does anyone recall that thread?
Thanks for any info.

I don't recall reading that and it doesn't sound right. Most military surplus 7mm rifles have bores that are very large by 7mm standards and It would seem that you would want to go in the other direction.

You are not going to be happy with the leading that you will receive if you go that route. Size to fit the throat of your Mauser and you will be much happier. Do a pound cast to determine throat size.

I know I read about this not more than a week ago, but don't remember where.
This was for the 7mm only. I have different 7mm's that I shoot with .288 - ..290
diameter cast often. Never had great luck with any of them.. It had to do with
they used bullets that were not groove riding but rode on top of the lands.
I'll keep digging around till I find it.

A buddy of mine has a Brazilian 1908 (I do too) and shoots .285 dia cast thru it all the
time and gets no leading. I don't get it, but I'm going to try it. Nothing ventured,
nothing gained. I've always been the believer in bigger is better. Maybe not.

Measure the inside neck of a fired cartridge, that should get you close.
