I am thinking about getting myself a 9mm 1911. I do not like 3-dot sights. I much prefer the target style sights. I also like a stainless steel finish, full size. I really like the springfield range officer ( I think that is what it is called). I also like the ruger sr1911. The ruger is about $100 bucks cheaper. I don’t know much about 1911’s. I am a revolver guy. Which one do you guys like? My main criteria is a good trigger and good accuracy. Of course, I want something without feeding and function problems. Does anybody have experience with these or others that meet these criteria?

I like them both. I am a lefty so the ambidextrous safety is nice on the ruger, but it is not a deal breaker. This will mostly be a range toy, doing double duty as a nightstand gun.

WOW, you just opened yourself up for some input !

I must vote for the Ruger and I'll try to justify that vote. The plunger tube cast as part of the frame is a big plus. It cannot come detached. The cast frame itself is also a plus. Ruger has proven its skill in casting and the savings gained from that method of construction allow Ruger to spend more money elsewhere in the design.
The titanium firing pin devoid of any silly safeties, is also a plus.
Every Ruger SR1911 I've handled was well fitted. They are not Les Baer pistols but they aren't $2700+ either.

Ruger's service is top notch and if they let a less than great pistol out of the factory, I'm confident they will correct it.

Just my $0.02 worth but I think the Ruger is the way to go.

I have the RO and a Taurus 1911 clone in 9mm. Both shoot equally well. Taurus feels a bit better in my hand but the RO has a bit better trigger pull. Haven't had problems with either.
Had a Ruger 1911 in 45 cal. Shot well and functioned well.
Sold the Ruger and picked up a Springfield longslide 45.
Either will work well. I am left handed too and liked the Ruger better because of that. The RO will probably have the better trigger pull, but check them both out.

If you’re not dead set on a Ruger or Springfield I’d suggest looking for a used STI TargetMaster. They discontinued them a few years ago, if you find one the price should be comparable to a new Range Officer. Not to besmirch Rugers, Kimbers, SOs etc., but they don’t come close for fit, finish, trigger or performance, IMO, and I’ve tried them all. Plus STI will stand behind their pistol even if you purchased it used. Only downside is no stainless version, but after a couple mags you’ll forget about that.
I’ve let a couple dozen shooters of varying skill try mine. At least half said they’d never shot that well before.

I own an SA Range Officer in 9mm and it shoots as accurately as any revolver or target pistol I own and I have some very nice ones.
Mine is the stainless version and has the target sights.

Though not a true 1911 the OP might want to look at a S&W Performance
Center 1911,SS adjustable sight, flared mag well. I have one and my only gripe is the grips are a bit thicker than I care for.

My SR1911-10 Target is a shooter. I'm not a 1911 guy, but I shot my Dad's 45 SR1911s so much better than his 45 Kimbers that I had to get one. The Ruger Target 9mm SR1911 is on "The List".

Its been discontinued now, but I have a STI Spartan 9 with a chromed barrel that I shoot for over 10 years in IDPA (ESP) without issues other than a broken ejector which STI gladly replaced. Liked it so much I bought another in 45acp for CDP class. Both have been reliable.
I also have a Para ProCustom 18.9 & a Sig Fastback .357Sig with 9mm & .38Super barrel swaps. The former is a double-stacked comp gun out-of-the-box while the latter is, well, a Sig (series 80 with ramped barrels).
All of my 1911s cost me less than $1k but are comparable to any high-end out there as far as reliability & accuracy.

I like the sights on my RIA tac series 1911's much better than on my other 1911's. The fiber optic front helps a lot.

I like my RIA Tac Ultra in 10mm but I would like to have either STI 2011 or Sig p210 for a good accurate 9mm.

I've got two Kimber Stainless Target IIs in 10mm and .38 Super both of which have 9mm barrels added...both are excellent shooters and have has zero feeding problems. The STII is available in 9mm for less than a grand.

Several of the people I shoot with have the SA Rangeofficer in 9mm and like them.
