I'm wanting to load something in the way of a .390 roundball for my .410 Marlin shotgun because with it's full choke, I don't want to take a chance with any slugs. Has anyone does this and what kind of shot cups and wads would I need? I can only chamber 2 1/2" shells so it would most likely be the single lead roundball.

Don't you mean .390 caliber? Lee 7sed to make a DC in that size.

FWIW, I have shot heat treated 0.410" round balls through my full choked mossberg 500e without problems. The choke was not affected by these hard round balls.

Regarding wads, take a look at the Ballastic Products website.

The modern Mossberg barrels are heavier walled, and of better steel and heat treatment than older guns.

I split the muzzle of a pre-WW2 H&R single-barrel with wheelweight .410 balls.

How will this work in a Savage Model 24 22/410 OU , that is full chock ?

I have a H&R 410, a .395 RB will go through the choke with thumb pressure. I used wads punched from cardboard and cork gasket material and H110. I don't remember the load but velocity was a bit surprising. As far as accuracy it was no rifle but most were in a 6" circle at 20 yards or so.

David: BPI sells a pamphlet or a down load for loading the 410 with round ball. Cost is very reasonable. Includes data for 2 1/2 and 3" hulls with one to four balls and Lil Gun powder. Also A.J. has posted a lot of 410 data here @ Boolits. Gp

I’ve loaded 180gr cast .401” TC pistol bullets over a filler with petals cut off plastic wads. At 30’ they shut surprisingly well. They were previously lubed with liquid Alox.

I have loaded 3 -.400 diameter lead balls over 14 grs. of H 110 with a standard plastic wad with the pedals cut off for a gas seal in 2 1/2" AA hulls. This is a good load to shoot various varmints at 30-35 yards.
I shot a large hog at 10-15 yards with one of these ( brain shot ) and it dropped on the spot and didn't need a second shot.
