40-63 ballard

Hello All I acquired A Ballard Rifle chamberd in 40-63 today, Ive seen it refered to as 40-63 everlast can some one tell me what that means. Please And Thank You!

Collecting Cartridges , the term "EVERLAST" a basic Type of brass. They were around when Brass cases started coming Out , Late civil War. Original Everlast Cases were a 2 piece case. you could unscrew the base and insert a percussian cap , load and shoot. . They later evolved into a Very thicker type of case.
Unlike modern cases are somewhat Disposable. Everlast Brand were made thicker overall. to be reloaded time after time.. Supplies @ that time were very Expensive . unlike TV and cowboy Movies . ammo was Very expensive and not to be wasted. most Loadings were done by small shops in every town. Cases were never tossed away.. Used reused and used again, it was considered the first form of reloading

I believe that the original name was 40-63 Ballard Everlasting. It is pretty much an analogue of the 40-70 but seems to have a heavier case. Not certain, but I think a friend used 444 Marlin brass as a parent case. 405 WCF should be closer, but the rim may be a bit beefy, and the neck may have to be turned also.

One of my Pacific Ballards is in .40-90 and I use 9.3x74R brass to fire-form "shooter" brass for it. I anneal the case mouths down about 1/3rd of the way before fire-forming with cornmeal blank charges and I haven't lost a single case to splits so far.
