I was perusing the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook for a load suitable for a Lee 452-225-TL boolit and noticed that for every boolit listed the max was 5 grains of Red Dot. Boolit weight didn't matter.

Soooooo……...I'm going to use Red Dot at starting loads up to max of 5 grains to see what the pistol likes. Just found it to be interesting.

My standard load is Red Dot/Promo 4.5 gr under 200~230 gr. boolits. Works perfect for me.

I've been using Red Dot in my S&W 25 revolver. Matt's 165 gr. full wadcutters sized .454 over 3.2 Red Dot, ACP brass in moon clips. This is my short line (25 yd) load for bullseye competition. Very accurate and light recoil for fast recovery during sustained fire. Of course, there's no way it will work in a semi-auto. My only complaint is that it's quite dirty. After a match, the shooting bench is littered with black and pink flakes.

4.7gr R.Dot pushing a Lee 230 gr RN or TC was the most accurate in my 5" Govt. after testing 4.5 -4.9 gr. with it sandbagged @ 25 yds..

Back in the late 70’s I shot IPSC and used quite a bit of Red Dot and 200 grain SWC’s. I got outclassed quickly by the custom guns and the 38 Super... but it was fun.

Currently running 4.5 gr under a cast 230 gr truncated cone with a nice big meplat.

Tried 4 grains but the cases came back sooted up half their length, so kicked it up a notch and they stay cleaner.

Back in the old days.... :) ......I used Red Dot, Green Dot, Blue Dot, Unique, Bullseye and WW231 in my .45 Basically whatever I had on hand at the time. The Dot powders were usually around because of my shotshell reloading. All of them gave me good results if loaded to suit the powder and bullet.

Later on I stopped shooting a lot of shotgun. At the same time I got a decent powder measure so I migrated to ball powders like AA5 and AA7. I would keep the WW231 for the little .32ACP.
