Took a few guns out this morning to shoot and got a real surprise. First I shot my new to me Browning B78 with open sights. I couldn't focus on the front sight so my results were not anything to brag about. I was shooting the Lee 405fp with 12.0gr Unique. This gun needs either a peep and global or a good scope, and for me the scope would probably be best. I do like shooting the falling block action though and the curved but plate did not cause any issures for me. Next up was a TC Contender carbine 17" barrel and this was its first outing. Loaded with Lyman 311041 and step loaded with unique and again nothing to brag about, I have not hit the load for this rifle yet.

Last was an H&R Handi 22" barrel with a cheap Tasco 3-9 scope. Been shooting this rifle a while but this was its first diet of the same load the Browning shot above. Man did it like that combination. I shot the last 10 shots into one target and all 10 went into 1 1/8" CTC. I have not chronographed this load yet but this rifle like it. So the cheap Handi rifle is the clear winner this morning. Here are the results of the last target shot this morning.

Yes it did put a smile on my face. The ruler is 2 years younger than me, I have to protect the ruler from my grand kids.

Try measuring outside to outside and then subtract .458" and see what you get. Either way that is a beautiful group.

That is the load that rifle will be fed for sure. I have the lighter lyman 457122 bullet and the lee 340fp that I will be playing with as well. I hope the Browning will shoot as good once I get a scope mounted on it.

Texas by God I measured the group as you suggested and from ragged edge to ragged edge measures 1.466 minus .458 equals 1.008".

Down from 1.125" to 1.008" - that group is getting better [emoji16]!

That looks pretty good, solid 2moa at 50yds, think I would move out to a hundred with that 3-9 scope on it, if it does 2" you are doing very good.

A 25-cent piece would be in grave Danger.

I treasure that ruler, when the grand kids use it I go and retrieve it when they are finished with it. I bought a bedroom suite at an estate sale and this was in the night stand. If it could tell the tales it has seen.

I know what you mean about the grandchildren. I got you beat by another year. Have tang sights on most of my rifles and everything must be just right for best results. Went with MVA, Unertl and Lyman Targetspot on my single shots for the period look. Makes a long shooting day more enjoyable. Nice group. Sometimes the ugly duckling turns out to be the swan.
Enjoy both the guns & the kids.
