Hello everyone,
I am hoping I can draw on the experience of everyone here and possibly anyone with Quickload.

Bullet: http://www.accuratemolds.com/bullet_detail.php?bullet=36-165NG-D.png
I am getting ready to start shooting IHMSA Field Pistol with a S&W 586-8 6" and am working up loads for this bullet. I had been shooting 13.5 grains of 2400 with good results but after playing with 10 shot strings over a chrono 13.7 was more consistent and was a little more accurate. Now my Lyman manual lists #358429 (170gr) as a max of 13.5 grains, #358311 (158gr) as a max of 15.5 and #358156 (155gr) as a max of 14. These are all in a similar weight range but the #358429 is loaded to a shorter OAL. My bullet loads closer to the #358311 and #358156 at 1.585".

I don't want to beat the snot out of my revolver so would like to stay under a max load, but am having a hard time identifying what a max load is.

I have been searching the forum for a few hours as well as the internet in general but haven't found a great consensus. Thanks in advance for any data or information you can offer.

Huh, I'm feeling pretty dumb right about now. Been looking at the 3rd edition on the computer and the 4th edition in the reloading room and had some sort of blindness to that #358665. Looks like that 13.5 is very much a Max with a 165 gc bullet.

I’ve seen and used higher charges in accordance with older published load data with the 358156 casted at 158 grs...but I used these in a Ruger B/H...and no longer use them. Currently, I never feel the need to exceed 13.5 grs and the 358156 using 357 Mag cases, and actually found a 38-44 loading (published in Handloader) with 2400 to be much more accurate. This 38-44 load clocks at 1,100 FPS +/- with less abuse to my 357 Magnums.

Yes, your load does exceed max under current published data.
