I picked up a bunch of .38 Special brass, including a number of boxes of Winchester Western Super Match brass. Is this brass anything special that I should set aside for wadcutters, or should I just mix it in with my regular brass?

Wadcutter brass is desirable enough that I would never mix it with other brass types.

The Winchester Western Super Match brass has a straight wall made especially for hollow base wadcutters so it doesn't swage down the deeply seated bullet. It used to be more prevalent when bullseye and PPC matches were more popular than they are today.

I would keep it aside for wadcutter use myself, since I sometimes still like shooting them.

Hope this helps.

I agree with the others. Save it for wadcutter loads. It really does improve groups, although only slightly.

Thanks guys. I’ll set them aside. It did seem a shame to toss all that nice matching brass in with all the old mixed stuff.

Set aside not just for wadcutters, but also for situations where you want to load a larger diameter cast bullet due to larger cylinder throat measurements. I load SWCs that mike .359 in wadcutter brass for a revolver with .359 cylinder throats.

Good idea.

Definitely save for WCs as mentioned as they have straight size.

Starline advertises their 38 Special brass as being wadcutter ready.
