Been hitting the books a searching the web for a good starting OAL for both the Lyman 125g 308241 plain base and the 169g 311413 GC Boolits. Most of the older references I can find only show a generic max OAL and nothing by bullet.

Traditional wisdom is to go out to just touching the lands but in my case my Remmy 700 has a looong throat and neither bullet will come close and still be in the case, especially the 125.

Wherever I end up I hope to have my first cast rifle loads ever in the range Friday.

In that case, if it was me, I'd seat them as long as I could while still feeding through the magazine.

Ditto this.... My Tikka, by pure grace, found its happiest place right here. Ended up .030 off lands, purely by chance of magazine length, and the rifle loved it. YMMV, but it seems like the only choice if you can't get close to lands.

So I lucked out and found a picture of the 311214 Squib Bullet online for an -06 and loaded it to the same point and loaded the 308241 with the bullet at the same point as a 30-30 load to the front groove.

I’ve got to say shooting those over 2400 was the most fun I have had with the -06 in a long time. The 413 had virtually no recoil, the 241 ever less. The target was at 50yds

Loading up more of each to run across the chrono. Nothing more needed for the 413’s I think and a little more development for the others. I expected a different POI and couldn’t find the first 2 shots with the 421s til I counted holes and changed to the upper left spot

Hi. Read with interest your post and the replies and wanted to share my result with the 413. I have a sporterized 03A3 that I'm using as a cast shooter and one of my favorite bullets is the 311413, GC and sized to 0.310, neck tension 0.002. Mine come out at about 177.8gr with check using alloy of roughly pb-95.8, sn-2.3%, sb-1.8% and a dash of Arsenic from chilled lead shot. In any event, here are my results for the 311413, COAL: 3.155, and using use 1/2 biodegradable packing peanut cut lengthwise as a filler. The target squares are 1/2". As you can see, there seem to be two sweet spots for my rifle. Not sure what caused that first shot flyer on the 20.0gr load, but the others really settled in. Good luck in finding your load! Ed
