How old is this Hoppe’s No 9 bottle?

I just made a Salvation Army run for pewter and found this bottle sitting on the shelf with a blank price tag. I got it for sixty nine cents. I saw it was an old cork top type bottle so I snagged it up. I figured if it’s not worth much I’d give to my buddy who owns a gunsmith shop for display. Any ideas of a value and age? I don’t see any on fleabay to see asking prices. I’ll have to find a cork for it. Thought it was kinda neat and couldn’t pass it up.

I googled them and they’ve been in business since 1903. I wonder if there’s a way to date the bottle?

A bottle with cork instead of threaded metal cap is pre-WW2.

My guess would be in the 50's. I am not a collector but I would guess the value would be low since the top is missing and the label is damaged/stained. I remember cleaning my dad and my shotguns in the 50's using Hoppe's in glass bottles. I can't remember what kind of top they had on them quite a few glass bottles back then used cork stoppers or in some rubber stoppers. It would make a nice piece to have with an old gun. james

I think it is before 1937, did some searching and found an exact match but it only indicated early 1900's. I also found one close that was dated 1937 but the labeling was a little different that is why I think it's pre-1937.

1910/1920 time frame. It would take a lot of time to search through the old ads from that time and prior trying to find an exact match to the label wording. The cork stopper indicates it dates from near the beginning.

Every one I see a pic of when I google is missing the label that is a cork type top and not a screw in cap. So I’m guessing one with an original label still on it is rare.

Cool! I figured it was pretty early production. I found a couple of various bottles of rootbeer syrup that looked similar and took a cork dated 1894.

If the root beer syrup is still factory sealed, its probably still usable.

Wow, have not seen one that old in years! Dad had one from when he was young, I never knew how old it was but I assumed 35 to 42 or 43. His still had the cork, but the contents were long gone.

nyfirefighter357, that little bottle in the center with the screw on top is what I remember from the 50's when I was cleaning our shotguns. I couldn't remember the top until your picture showed up and it came back to me. glass bottle, screw on top. thanks for the picture, it does bring back memories--good ones. james

I found one listed for $99 on ebay. I listed mine for the same or best offer. No bites or offers yet. I’ll post what I sold it for if and when it sells. I messaged the other seller and I sounds like he has sold a few of the same for what he has his listed. The seller said it takes a while before he gets a buyer for them.

I found another bottle today. It's a screw in cap type. It was in a garage I demolitioned. I don't think it's very old and is over 3/4's full. I'll be using it on my guns. Looks like NYfirefighters little bottle.

I sold the bottle on eBay today for $47.50 and $8 to ship. Think I did pretty good considering I paid $.69 for it. The profits are going towards the $110 I paid to upgrade my Ruger American 450 BM to a 450 BM scout model. It would’ve been cool to have around for display but I’m not a knickknack kind a guy
