The movie prop houses have quantities of Snider breech loaders which have been sleeved to use the common 5 in 1 movie blanks.

The .577 Snider rounds can be loaded and improvised using Fiocchi or Magtech 24-ga. all-brass cases, cut to 2 inches and loaded with a .600" lead round ball, fiber wad column and 80 grains of 2Fg.

That would be a lot more fun to shoot than my 14.2 pound Quigley .45-110, I bet. GF

Could be wrong but I think that's a clip from near the end of the movie where Quigly is making his stand against the British after shooting Marsten.

yes, then the camera backs out and shows the hills around the ranch lined with the Aboriginies.
Then the british decide to leave.

@ Indian Joe.
I take it you were there , being from Down Under.
We appreciate the Correct historical information.
Movies tend to distort the actual History.
That ain't right.

I loved that show. Made me want a Sharps. I ended buying a 1863 paper cartridge Sharps & love it just the same.

nah !!I werent there its a bit far away for me to visit on short notice like that - besides me horse was a bit lame

I searched all the Aussie colonial uniform info I could find -- couldnt see that headgear - uniform looked like more like in India at that time - headgear similar or from the Sudan
I wasnt thorough enough to say no for sure but it yelled loud at me from that picture - but then Tom Selleck's rig was kinda loud too eh:D

Movies "sometimes" get the details wrong, say it ain't so! If Hollywood says it's right then it MUST be right!

I don't think I have ever seen a Hollywood movie where they get much of anything right, I think Open Range (my favorite movie next to Quigly) got the details closer than any I have seen. Hollywood gets everything wrong, guns are usually wrong for the era being the most obvious.

My favorite example, and I have mentioned this a bunch of times because I just love this one, a cop show back in the seventies had a detective wanting to question a gunshot bad guy who was in the hospital. The doc was desperately trying to save the guy and manages to remove the bullet that he then proceeds to show the detective, the bullet he had just removed and was holding in the forceps was the whole cartridge case and all! :groner:

The movie Saving Private Ryan probably had the most historically correct firearms, IHMO.

that would happen in that country Quigley was shot in - wouldnt take years either - that red dust floats into everything!!!!
