I cast up my first batch of these today. I plan on pc’ing them tomorrow. What’s your favorite powder for heavy 9mm’s and why?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190921/6e131f2608cf72730b70a50d0d2527d1.jpg

What a fine litter of puppies!

They all look pure bred.

I love 2.8 to 3.2 grains of Red Dot/Promo. Very economical, soft and mild to full bore, meters well. A little dirty, but I clean my guns after every range trip. 8lb keg is $140 from Graf's.

Those are very nice. With that design, they should feed in nearly any gun.
With boolits that heavy, I lie to use AA7. It can be loaded very soft or very hot and still function the gun.

These are going to feed my ar9 mostly.

I’ve been using Hogdon CFE with good results. It meters well and is clean firing.

3.3 to 3.9 grains is the range I have used. I like 3.6.

3.2 to 3.4 grains VV N320 over a HiTek coated 147 sized to .357" gets me a bit over 900 fps and good accuracy through my G34 factory barrels (for USPSA Production division action pistol).

I don’t cast anything as light as that but for commercial 147s 3.7gr WSF gets me around 139 power factor.

In 9mm I don’t cast anything over 125 grains. My Ruger SR9 handles heavy boolets just fine but my Kel-Tec PF9 doesn’t like anything over 125 grns. So that’s what I cast. as far as a powder, I prefer Win 231/ Hodgdon HP38 (it’s the exact same Powder. As a matter of fact, to quote the Hodgdon tec I spoke with “ it comes out of the exact same vat. The only difference is the label we put on the bottles when we package it for sale!”) The actual load depends on weather I’m loading RCBS 115 grn Rn, Lyman 120 grn flat point, Lee 125 grn Rn, or Lee 124 grn conical.

It’s a rcbs clone.

I like WST for my 147gr loads but there are a bunch of powders that work well for 900fps +; W231, WSF, VV320, Ramshot Comp, RedDot, Promo, some even like TG (not me). I cast the 147gr from Saeco, RN with a small cutting shoulder. That looks like the RCBS?

Although I have had some luck with 700X with one particular Mihec mold, most of my best loads are Power Pistol or slower. I have a hard time getting some of the heavies to stabilize with fast powders. Blue Dot gives me great accuracy, but on a still day a steel challenge match looks like a Civil War re-enactment. Smoke and Hope gets pretty literal.

My favorite powder for 9mm boolits is Smoke's Signal Blue.

Oh, wait, you mean smokeless powder. Hah!

I don't load the heavies, but mid weight 9mm I prefer WSF and Unique. WSF moreso.

My favorite smokeless powder for heavy 9mm boolits is Ramshot Competition.

Vel is for stability, what powder you use to get there doesn't really matter. I can get 147gr to shoot 3" @ 25y offhand in several diff guns running down to 800fps.

I like either TiteGroup at 2.8-2.9g or HP-38 at...I forget. It’s written down though.

Unique is always a safe bet.
Bullseye would also be fine with those puppies.
