Hi all,

I mixed up a batch of saeco green (blue realy as I could only find blue crayons) and have some loaded into my lyman 450. I am planing on using it in my 44mag and 444 marlin leverguns. The 44 mag runs about 1900 fps and the 444 2200 fps.

I normally use plain old alox/beeswax 50/50 but I have run out and it is goning to take 2-3 weeks to get my order from whitelabs thru the border (live in Canada!).

I don't think I ever got leading from the 50/50, never had any grey streaks only odd silver fleck of lead on cleaning patch. The 44 mag is realy dirty from the W296 I load it with, I use mainly H335 in the 444 marlin and find it is not as dirty.

MY question is can one use saeco blue/green to 2200fps without leading? Wat is the limit in FPS one can use it to? I did a search with the search function but could not find any answers.

Thanks
Bill

If you use crayons, remember the blue/yellow spectrum are for slower loads, such as pistol and low velocity rifle. The red/Blue spectrum are for high velocity loads, and the closer to blue you go, the higher velocity you can realize. The yellow/red spectrum, can be expected to perform fairly well in both uses, but is not particularly well suited for specialized shooting in either class firearm.

Bit of a b****r if your colour blind.

Does using crayons also help you with your draw? :Fire:

About the crayons, some guys say it is bad to use to many crayons in bullet lube.I have never heard the reason behind this.Does it affect bullet lubes at certain speeds or is it BS.I would also like to know how fast saeco green can be shot without leading?

I kind of look at adding crayons, to be like adding parrafin. The end lube will be harder, the more that is added.

But how much velocity will Saeco green take?

But how much velocity will Saeco green take?

It really depends.......if everything fits perfectly/is a balanced load/decent lube capacity boolit...it will go about 2500 in a 30 to 35 bore without leading....BUT....there will be a more accurate solution out there. Lars BAC blend lube work really well is cheap and does not need a heater in a warm room. and it's cheap...and it works well.....and it's cheap. He is a fine fella to deal with...makes a good product and it is cheap.

I was not paid for this testimony just a happy customer.

Three royal blue cyranons

I ordered some BAC and 2500+ from whitelabs and it shipped today. I mixed up the Seaco Green as I was out of bullet lube and need to lube some casts.

So I will ask again anyone every use Saeco green around 2200-2300?

What does Lars mix with the 50/50 to get the 2500? I have a bunch of 50/50 and would like to try to make some 2500. Sorry I got off subject.

Not tried Saeco green but use lots of Speed Green. Velocities to infinity and beyond!

Ok guys, I`m getting into casting for my rifles and I want to try making my own lube. What is the formula for Saeco Green? Do you actually add crayons for any reason other than color or is that just horse manure? :???:

The recipe for Saeco green is
2LBS.-Beeswax
2LBS.-Parrifin wax
1LB-Stp oil treatment
3or4 green crayons for color

i have made an off shoot of the saeco green and i think my next step is gonna be bull shops lube.
it is easy to make with his lube and bees wx.
i also have heard the reports of how fast it will go from his own son. and others.

I use liquid candle makers dye for color, it can be had from most hobby/craft stores, I get mine from Michaels or off ebay. I also use it to color two cycle fuel mix when the oil doesn't have any dye in it, about 10 to 12 drops per two gallon mix on fuel. Happy mixing!

Lighter colors for Faster loads!

This is because the faster you push the boolits the darker colors start to bend and become lighter because of the speed. Much like the Doppler Effect. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doppler_effect

If you start with lighter colors for faster speeds, they don't have as much resistance because they don't need to bend as far. :drinks:

I`ve decided to go out to my barn, find a solid 2x4 about 3 ft. long and proceed to bash myself in the forehead for starting to read all these threads. Some of them are like saying a white car goes faster than a red one because white is cleaner? Keep up the good info though, I need to go take some Tylenol for this pounding headache I now have and get the wood splinters pulled out of my forehead! Robert:-D
