I just received my order from Montana bullet works (very fast service A++++).I have 44 cal. 300 grain gas checks and 357 mag 150 gas checks both are wide flat nose.Does anybody have any loads for either of these bullets ? The powders that I have are lil gun,h110 and 2400 .The reloading manuals that I have do not show any loads for bullets with gas checks. I am going to use these in our upcoming deer season. The pistols are 44 mag.ruger super redhawk and a dan wesson model 15 357 mag.
Thanks in advance,
Wayne

Welcome aboard ! I use jacked data to start and can usually go up a little from there . The gas checks do add a little pressure over plain base but not much . If you use jacked data you are plenty safe . Good luck James[smilie=s:

Greetings and WELCOME Wayne
I have used a DW 15-2 since 1978... My magnums loads I tried 2400 for awhile but when compared to ww296 I gave up on 2400.
First thing I found out with my Dan was to close up the cylinder gap. I use a .0005 or .001 gauge for cylinder gap. Reduces the loss of power at the gap. Next I tend to tighten my barrels (using the barrel nut) tight. It seems to IMPROVE accuracy in my 4 different Dans.
2400 is a good powder and I know several who use it succesfully.... I just stuck with 296 as I bought a 8 pound jug some years ago.

Alliant's site at:

http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/Index.htm

Or Hogdon's site at:

http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp

and look at their data for these two cartridges.

Many times one can only pick the closest bullet style and weight to what they have and work up to optimum which may or may not be the upper levels of loading for that boolit/powder.

Wayne; Welcome!
I had a Dan Wesson, and it was the most accurate .357 I have owned.

At any rate, I have used 5.5 gr. Unique in .357 cases, and standard primers behind an RCBS 150gr. SWC cast bullet for IPSC matches. Chronoed at 860 fps from a 4" barrel. Good load!:-D

I have also used 158gr. SWC cast and RCBS 162gr. gas check bullets with complete satisfaction.

They all shot well, and it is a rather mild load.

Lately, in an attempt to match the FBI/ Dade County/ RCMP loads, I have switched to 5.9gr. Unique, because my measure bushings don't throw 6.0 gr, and I refuse to measure all those little bitty charges

It is definitely a more lively loading, but not at all disturbing.

Of course, I have 2400 and IMR 4756 yet to investigate.
