197lbs score

Paid $55 for 197lbs of assorted lead. As a newbie caster I used the id sticky and it looks like ill have roughly 70lbs clip on wheel weights, 25lbs stick on wheelweights, 60lbs of unknown lead, and 7lbs scrap. Still have more to sort and will weigh when done. An estate sale 2 months back yielded 45lbs of sinker lead for 30 bucks. Scored another 15lbs from my moms work for free. I used a lee 10lbs bottom pour I got for free to smelt. Ill mostly be casting for 32acp, 32s&w, and 7.62x25. Looking forward to finding more deals.

Will have to post pics later when sorted. The 60lbs of unknown include 2 chunks that take up probably over half that weight. Will have to do the pencil test on them.

After properly weighing got 100lbs clip ons, 25lbs stick ons, 57lbs unknown hardness, and the rest scrap.

The 2 pieces pictured pencil tested at a 2h for the smaller piece and an h for the other. I'd assume someone could identify the smaller piece as I have no clue.

Just a wild guess, but it reminds me of the weights used for duck decoys.
A string is wound around it, and ya toss it out with the decoy.
It unwinds itself until it hits the bottom.


If so, that ones looks like a fancy version (but one leg is broken off)
that can handle two decoys that would bob around close together.

but looking closer,,,,,, it also looks like the holes don't go all the way through.

Great score 1775usmarine. I'm going lead hunting tomorrow but am not as excited about it as I once was. Though that will change if I score. Scores are much smaller and a lot more rare than the used to be. Lead is still out there if we just dig deep enough.

Good for you. Every now and then its nice to come across a good score of lead. For myself working full time its a little harder getting out but I always have my eyes and ears working for the next find.
