Just read a couple threads on hunting with 45 Colt- cast loads. BD designed his boolit several years ago, and I believe there were at least 2 group buys on it. Have any of you shot anything with it? Would like to know how it worked. Interested in what gun, estimated velocity, penetration and any other details. Thanks.

I have used the Lee 452-200 RF cast bullet on several whitetailed deer with good results. It is very similar to the BD-45 bullet design you have mentioned. I also use the heavier Lee 452-255 RF bullet as well. Velocities are 1230 fps with the 200 grain and 1030 fps with the 255 grain when fired from a .45 Super.

I have only shot paper with the ACP. The meplate on the BD is almost twice the diameter on the Lee 200 gr. If it was all I had and a 25 yard shot presented itself. I would feel confidant with a 1911 and my load. I don't foresee that, nor did I buy the mold to hunt with.

I just measured the diameter of the meplat on the Lee 452-200 bullet with my digital caliper as best I could and measured 0.312 inches...this is compared to the drawing I had attached of the BD bullet as having a meplat diameter of 0.328 inches. Not sure most deer could tell the difference! My point being that although I have never used the BD bullet I suspect it would have excellent perfomance on game based on my experiences with the Lee bullet.

The lee 200 gr Ihad would be lucky to hit .175". Nothing ever stays the same.

That was probably the Lee 452-200 SW that you had...It had a tiny meplat..I think they still make that one as well. The mould I have is the 452-200 RF....
