Griff, The Argentine government sold off both the Model 1891 weapons and parts decades ago. As an idea of how long ago, I bought my 1891 Cavalry Carbine at "Monkey" Wards for $17.00. IIRC this was possibly before, but not later than, 1970 (well, it was definitely before yesterday [smilie=s:).

I just acquired an 1891 Argentine mauser carbine in a trade! My plans are to shoot it along with the Swedish mauser and the 95 Steyr that were part of the trade! I'll keep my eyes peeled for a stray barrel. I work in a LGS and I see lots of stuff!

Sometimes, but rarely, consulate personnel of friendly nations have been helpful in locating hard to find parts or information. Worth a try, I guess, but if he/she finds one for you, you may experience import difficulties because of international restrictions about the movement of guns and gun parts, also import duties.

Were the problem mine, I would haunt the commercial parts houses (all listed many times before in other threads), and inquire fairly often if they had the barrel. Maybe they don't have one today, but might next week as another old warrior is parted out.

But, all that being said, most likely the best route to follow would be to borrow one somewhere and take some measurements, length and profile diameter(s) and turn the job over to a good gunsmith for a re-barrel job. A duplicate should be a fairly easy project. I have one of these carbines, but it's not practical to ship it to Hawaii.

Problem with the one I have is the chamber.
Some*#@!_?*(: in the past had run a .308 Win reamer into it.
I'm guessing so they could shoot 308 Win through it.
Not thinking the the barrel is .311 and not .308.
I shoot it, with 7.65 rounds, and it shoots great.
Shells come out looking strange.
It's a shame.
This is an original Carbine. Not a cut down.
Has the small rear sight.
All numbers matching.
It a crying shame.

Pick up that gauntlet, form and load for the chamber it has. Sounds like a fun challenge to me. Maybe put a FS on the title.

Yeah! +1 on corbiance's post. If it's got a .308 chamber, just load .311 boolits in the .308 case and you may have a real winner.

I would try the inexpensive 2-cav Lee mold for the 155 grain .312 boolit for the SKS & AK. I size it to .310, use Lee tumble lube and it is extremely accurate out of a Ruger .308 Scout Rifle over a solid load of 2400. Could probably shoot it as cast from water dropped wheel weights. Make lemonade out of your not quite lemon. GF

Hi abunaitoo, I don't have a 91 argentine carbine barrel.But I do have
a 30/06 threaded barrel that I don't need. It is chambered for 30'06
with 1/10 twist and a target crown. Threaded 1-16 , bore is like new.
This could be rechambered to 7.65 argentine and threaded for your carbine.
This is a heavy barrel, but could be turned down to your preferred contour.
PM if interested.
