My brother just got a very nice 99 Savage in .243 Win. It has the tang safety, brass cocking indicator and numbered rotor. The characters 10N are on the lever boss, can someone tell the approximate date of birth? It has nice walnut pg style with a normal forend and a slightly curved flat steel butt plate. He says it has sticky extraction of fired factory ammo- any ideas?

Tang safety means a post one million one, so no older than the '60s. The Savage collectors forum on 24-hour campfire has some serious knowledge on such things, might ask there

We have 3 Savage 99 243's, a Featherweight, my wife's antelope rifle, a 99C and a 99E. the Featherweight goes .75 MOA with most 90-100 bullets and AA3100 for 5 shots, the 99C does stay under MOA but haven't really fussed at it. The 99E is MOA, but is a saddle gun for the off-season in the high country with a 2-7 scope. All are very enjoyable. Careful stoning on the top tang triggers can take them to 2.7-3 lbs bs safely. We use 95 gr Nosler Partitions for hunting, 100gr Sierra and Hornady shoot with the same zero.

He headed West and left it with me to figure out. Projects, projects.
