I have commissioned one of your fellow citizens to produce a 375 H+H barrel for my Blaser R8. I sold a ripper JM 444 to fund the purchase of this rifle and want to have a barrel specifically for brush hunting Sambar Deer with cast. They are big suckers and 338 win mag is a favourite calibre for these ferals.
I am curious to hear your thoughts based on real experience please. I have a 235gr Noe GC mold which will get me started and would be delighted if I could get these up to 2500fps. I have the option of 1:18 twist and 1:14 twist. As I don't need to shoot more than 300 yards and probably 250gr max boolit weight I am tending to favour 1:18.
I have had a twiddle with JBM ballistics stability but like to hear real life opinions from some of the people whodunnit. Thanks in advance, JIM

Hello
I do not have THAT level of involvement
My Winchester Model 70 in 375 H&H uses a
270 grain cast bullet with 60 grains of 4831.

Good morning
Another 375 H&H shooter (2 single shots and a CZ bolt) and they all get fed a 270 grain FNGC at 2200-2350 fps with the slowest powder we have when we need to reload the brass. 4831 & 4350 are top performers.
For practice we shoot straight WW. For hunting it is a 50-50 (ww / range scrap) + about 2% tin. No leading issues as so far it has been one shot needed. But we hunt under 100 yards also. River bottoms / woods stuff. 300 yards is a long unheard of shot for us.
We also have molds for 300-345 grainers but never have used them on critters.

This load has collected numerous
Large Texas hogs, several nice whitetails.

Bullet performance was exceptional with most kills DRT
I would happily chase moose with this rifle and load

Whitworth Mark X action 12 twist barrel
LBT 285gr SP cast bullet 2 cavity - one cavity is the GG-gas-check bullet and the other cavity is a PP bullet
60 grains of IMR-3031

paper patch load holds a 3 inch circle at 200yards
grease groove bullet shoots a little larger with the same load.

I really have no idea how slow a twist you can get away with.
12 Twist feels like it works just fine to me.

The PP bullet has been the one I elk hunt with and is very effective.

I don't have pictures for you today.

I think that I will go PP in time. I have had a dabble but didn't get anything stellar. My logic is based on the 1:20 444 that I could shoot a full load of 8208 and 310gr MP cast with no leading and inch groups. Guessing it was topside of 2000fps.

Looking forward to anyone that can get their 375 H&H to group with cast and slow velocities. I tried J words 230 grain bullets along with trail boss out of 375 RUM and couldn’t hit a barn if i was locked inside of it. Started getting acceptable accuracy once I got up to 2700 FPS plus which defeated the purpose as the recoil was more than harsh at that velocity.

One low velocity 100y paper punching load that was accurate for me used the RCBS 250FN and 700X powder. Try powder charges in the lowers teens and work up by half grains.

I’m wondering if an extra oversized cast projectile is my answer. I gotta feeling the j word I was using probably was too small in diameter and needed two tons of pressure from behind to literally squish it to fill out into the rifling so it would group being it only started to group once it got to full velocity loads.

PM sent, given the 38-55 had a 20" twist the 18" twist should suffice just fine for your needs.

Mine is a 45-70 necked down to .377 instead of the H&H case.
12" twist works just fine with the Lyman #375296.
Haven't done the load development yet with heavier molds though there's a dandy old NEI 320 grain hollow point waiting in the toy box.
