I got a flyer from Graf & Sons last night and they say them have .303 Savage brass coming soon. The price is $34.99 per 100. I've passed up a couple good buys on Savage 99s chambered for .303 Savage because of the lack of affordable ammo or brass. That's probably why they were good buys.

I appreciate Graf providing brass for obsolete cartridges like they are doing. The list keeps growing.

In the latest Handloader Mag is an article on Savage cartridges and it shows how to make 303 savage from 30/40 brass. Not as easy as new factory brass but still an option . Mel

I've had complete sucess forming 303 Sav from 220 Swift. Full length size, trim, load and shoot. Simple, extracts fine. Lee dies too.

I make them from .30-30 cases with a ring of .40 S&W case pressed on the .30-30 case at a cost of 7c per case and resize, fireform and trim .220 Swift cases at 30c per case, including the primer and 4 gr of Universal, I did not count the cornmeal.
I just checked Graf's site, the .303 Savage is $39.95 per 100, but they have none on hand

Drinks, with me either its a feast or famine. A few years ago I picked up ten boxes of winchester 303 savage ammo. Think I paid about $20 per box. I since have not seen a 303 savage worth the money or with a decent bore to consider buying it. When I went to the houston gun show some years back there were plenty of 303's but no ammo. Frank

Frank;
I just looked at the most recent boxes of WW .303 Savage I bought at the then local hardware store, about 1965, $ 5.95 for 20 , 190 gr rn .
Oh well, this just shows how old I am!

Drinks, one of these days maybe I'll get lucky and find a nice takedown in 303 savage. Saw a 22 hi power which I think could be rebarrelled to 303 savage but the stock had been cut down so much it looked like it was for a young child. The stock wasn't even one piece of wood. Looked like three pieces had been all glued together. Nice work but looked really wierd. It was a takedown but the asking price was way above what I would have paid for it. Still have the ten boxes of ammo waiting though. Got it when Jumbo sports went out of buisness and they were selling off all the stuff in the store. I bought my rem 700 varmint synthetic from them for $549 and that was about 5 years ago. My rem 870 express was only $219 Frank

My .303 '99 is a 1920 made 20" straight stock carbine with a Redfield receiver sight, picked it up in a Savage '99 rack at a hardware store in McAllen TX , about '63, it was the only .303 in a bunch of .25-35s, .250s ,30-30s and .300s and was the cheapest at $30.
I am a sucker for a short barreled carbine, so I took it.
Really nice, I am even shooting a 200gr cast at 2000fps and no problems, this is a bit better than the factory load of a 190rn at 1950fps, with a 26" barrel.
Also load the Lee 113gr fn at 150-1600 to make a fair imitation of a .32-20, really nice plinker load.

Drinks, I have a 99r in 300 savage. Bbl is in nice shape. Only problem is that when I load more than 3 rounds in the mag they just self eject. I'm thinking that the little spring that holds the piece on the left side of the receiver may be weak. Mine was made in '59 one of these days will put a scope on it and see what she will do. Frank
