I am in need of a custom builder that can build me a falling block rifle from scratch. I have a very large cartridge I have developed based off a 50 bmg case. The pressure of a max load isn't too bad, but due to the size of the cartridge itself, I doubt it would fit in a ruger no 1 and still be strong enough. So, that leaves me with two options, rebarreling a 50 bmg action (way too heavy for what i want) or having a gun built. I have emailed Buehler cistoms for a quote, but I'm wondering if there are any others out there that can accomplish this. Here are cartridge dimensions and a max load estimate to give an idea of size and pressure. Any help s appreciated.

For cartridges similar to the .50 cal , usually either a German Pzb38/39 or GrB41 sized receiver will be needed to take the strain ( pre WW II AT rifles, drop block action, converted to AT Grenade Lauchers by 1941.)

Another appropriate falling block action is the Farquarson action, as made by Soroka : https://www.sorokarifle.com/technical_data.html

A "receiver" (also dropping block) available is the Universal Bond pressure and accuracy testing receiver, used in ammo factories for using Pressure and accuracy/velocity barrels.
These are a miniature version of the US M1916 37mm gun drop block action; very strong, but hard to stock.

Farquarson-type actions for very large cartridges have been made by Rodney Storie (google), but IDK if they are still available.

Once an action (and an appropriate barrel) is obtained, almost any gunsmith worth of the name (not some parts-changer) should be able to complete your build.

I would also recommend that you post your query on the American Single Shot Rifle Association website ( https://www.assra.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl )

Additionally, you might be able to locate a builder from the gunsmithing section of the practical machinist website ( https://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/ ).

Colin Stolzer has built at least one 2 bore falling block from scratch. Might give him a call. Stolzer and sons gunsmithing.

Perhaps a Farquason single shot action?

I don't know the purpose of it, but the recoil, even if the gun weighed 20 pounds would kill on both ends. Better way to go would be one of the 50 cal bolt rifles actions, and probably cheaper. Friend of mine has designed a large single shot action like you are looking for and is building one now, but he is not selling anything, just a mad scientist.

You will be better off putting it with a Farquarson of a Barrett. From my experience, you are looking at a $15,000 project minimum if you have an action made.
