So, I was going to put a stainless follower in my 1894 CSBL... No problem... but wait...
There is no barrel band and when removing the end plug screw, well, the end plug doesn't come out. It looks as though there is an extra part holding it onto the barrel. Now, I'm assuming I just get a very thin wrench in there and unscrew that piece as well... but anytime I ever assumed anything, it usually cost me a lot of money in repairs.
Anyone ever done this? (the taking the plug out on the CSBL, not the costly assumption thing.)

I think you will find that the dovetail piece protrudes through the tube wall and into the end plug. You have to remove the tube completely from the gun to remove the plug. However you might be able to remove the two screws on the fore end cap and just tilt the tube down off of the dovetail piece, just watch out for the spring.

Slack off the forend ,slide it toward then you can pull the mag tube down off its peg.
