Received a Lee 429-200 Rf today. Gave the mold blocks a quick alcohol wash and put on an after market 4140 Sprueplate, heated it up on the hot plate while the pot was coming up to temp. First pour and what a surprise, perfect boolits jumping out of the mold. No tapping, no mold deburing, checked the box to see if it was really a LEE! I have quite a few Lee 6 cavs but I always seem to have to fiddle with them to get the boolits to drop, deburing, scrubbing. etc. Not with this one. Even blind hogs find acorns now and then! ;)

I suppose Lee can make a mold that’s just right every now and then too!

I have the same mold. I wouldn’t say they jump out, but I have been happy with it.

Where did you get the aftermarket sprue plate?

And, why did you use it?

I bought a bunch of the sprueplates when They were available through a vendor here. As I recall there have been two shops that made them. I don't recall the names for sure but I think one was KAL. They are really the way to go. Aluminum on Aluminum is a recipe for gauling, The 4140 solved that.

I must correct my statements. The first vendor I got them from was making them out of 4140 but Kal uses A36 44W 4.5mm / 0.177” Steel plate and stress relieved.

That is what I am using now. Great plates and well worth the investment.

I cuts the sprue cleaner and doesn't gaul the mold at the hinge point like the aluminum will. Not to mention it is flat and remains flat over time. I still have a few more waiting for molds. :-P
