I just got a used Legacy Pointer break open .410 shotgun. On the forend is a square button that I'm sure is there to take the forend off, but I can't figure out how it works. There are no manuals or videos online about doing this.
There is alot of online info on Legacy Pointer shotguns, most of which is negative, but that's not what I'm looking for.
That forend button is driving me nuts - it's like finding a wall switch and not knowing what it's for.
Any suggestions?

"Button" - does it push in, pull out, twist, or otherwise move?

It does push in and I'm thinking that it should release the forend when pushed in, but nothing moves. It's probably just stuck.

Push the button in and pull away from barrel. Sometimes they take a pretty good tug to cam over.

If that doesn't work get some Kroil in there if possible and let it set. Depending on condition there may be some rust in there glueing it together.

I depressed the button and smacked it away from the barrel and it popped off. Thanks for the replies.

It's an interesting shotgun - .410, break open with a 28" barrel. I traded some ammo, and the store gave me a gift certificate for buying it (why, I don't know), so this shotgun cost me about $16 with tax. It doesn't look or smell like it's been fired a lot, or at all. Why a .410? my son asked. Why not? I have a Mossberg bolt action .410 that breaks most of the birds (well, some of the birds). I found a bunch of 444 Marlin brass at the range that someone didn't want, and it works perfectly as a .410 shell.

If it jas a 3" chamber buy a box of these and be amazed what a little .410 will do. They make it in 2 1/2" too.

I use the 2 1/2" in my Governor and .410 500
#000 buckshot and the Brenneke .410 slug work well on soft targets
