Does anyone know by what year Marlin was 100% side safety on the 336's or for that matter all their rifles?

Thanks

I do not know 100 percent, but I believe it was 1983.

83' appears to be the accepted transition.

Agree with 83

I just acquired one with an 08 serial number which I believe makes it 1992 production and it does not have the side safety. Did they do select calibers with the conventional first click safety?

It's referred to as a cross-bolt safety (CBS)…………

This will have the cross bolt safety if truly a 92 vintage.

There's some reference here to CBS. Read thru the models, 83 earliest. I have an 82, no CBS.
Also an 89 30AS, has CBS. your 92 should be Crossbolt Safety.

Well I must have a one of a kind because I understand 08 to be 1992 and there is no CBS. Anyplace else I could research this?

And all replies are much appreciated.

Check out Tomray on Marlinowners. He worked at the Ct. Marlin plant in design.

I did some more digging and now it looks like rifle was listed as the model .375 and the original run was 1980-1983 with some of the 83's having the CBS. I still don't quite understand the serial numbers but I must have interpreted the number incorrectly.
Thanks

Look for screw heads where the CBS should be. Probably has a safety delete installed.

OK, understand the serial number now, it's a model .375 made in 1980.

Thanks to everyone for your help and patience...
