Nice set of Iron. I had a 3" Colt DS years ago but parted with it for something more impressive. Never found it and wish I had the old Dick Special back.

Of course, you realize that you can't possibly stop any attacker with a mere .38 revolver or even that obsolete .45. You need to deposit those ineffective pieces with me in exchange for a couple Glock 9mm with 40 round magazines. /s

That's a nice looking S&W 13 you got there. All are nice...but I especially like the 13.

I thought the m24 was a .44 Special??
But a very nice group of revolvers for sure.

You are right Texas, I need to improve my "proof reading " skills. I somehow got the numbers transposed and didn't see the mistake. Thanks for the heads up, I have now corrected the post to the proper 22-4. james

...but for actual EDC I would have to add a small frame Smith. Think of how sweet a bouncing Baby Chiefs Special would look in that family! ;-)

Good stuff! I see that 3 out of 4 are Smiths. Always a good choice!

I have always been a Smith man but that little Colt practically jumped into my hands the first time I bought it at a local gun shop. It was way over in the corner of the case and out of sight unless you bent over a little. I bent to look at a 686 in the bottom layer of pistols and there it was all by its lonesome. Short story, I got a good deal on it after a little haggling and it came home with me. It is not as smooth of an action as the usual Smith's but it ain't that bad either. One really good thing about it, it is slightly small than the J frame Smith and will fit in the hip pocket of my jeans or front picket for that matter. I have a small inside the waist band holster for it(cheap one like me) also. Very easy to conceal. Lustful character that I am, I have ogled a couple of J frames lately. I am a lifelong revolver man. The only real auto pistol that I want/need is a 1911 of one persuasion or other. later, james

If the Detective Special you have is a 38 Special it is actually larger than a J frame Smith, being a six shot rather than five shot.

I suspect he meant to say the Dick Special is a tiny bit smaller than a K-frame Smith. I agree with the utility of a 3 inch barrel for a carry revolver. This Police Positive Special is still as reliable and effective as the day it left Hartford in 1915.

Yesterday was not a good day for my faulty brain. Yes the Colt is slightly larger than a J frame and small than a K frame but that is not what came out as I wrote id down. Maybe today will be better. james

Now those look nice my wife would love any of them. She carries a sw 642 and loves everything but trigger is a little heavy. But thats probably best for in the purse.

They shorted you an inch of barrel on that Model 13.

Better let me take that lemon off your hands.

I had one of the 4" versions until my grandson took it for his. I gave each one of my grandsons a rifle and a pistol/revolver(their choice) and my youngest took the 4" Model 13. I just had to have another 13 and I finally found this one in great shape. I bought it off a retired cop. james

The other day I took several revolvers out to the range for some funnsies with some Wadcutter ammo. Whoee, I thought I had stepped into a way back machine. Nice round holes, clustering against one another, with but a few outliers to show it was still me cranking the trigger, reminded me yet again that in the hands of someone who can shoot 'em, revolvers are dangerous weapons.

I shot matches in the 60's thru the 80's(We called them Combat Matches back then). Quit a few police officers came and shot with us. I started shooting those matches because I had never shot a revolver/pistol much in my early years and was not a good shot at all. A bulls hind end would have probably been safe at anything over 10 paces. The matches were separated by gun( pistol, revolver, and .22lr.) and classes in each(Master, Expert, Sharpshooter, and Novice). I never made Master with anything but the revolver( a .45acp Model 25-2 5" inch barrel) and I quickly learned I could shoot double action much faster and more accurately. Rules took your 9 targets total score on a standard police target at various ranges, and the time (in seconds) divided into the target score gave you your final score. I learned to really love revolvers from that experience and I have been a revolver man since. my experience anyway, james

I've gone through all of the handgun phases: target, combat, steel, plastic, pistol, revolver, big, little, etc. In fact, I repeated some of the phases. Somewhere deeply entrenched in my DNA is a passion for DA revolvers. There's just something about DA revolvers that clicks inside my brain.

That's a nice collection of DA revolvers the OP has.

The 3" Round Butt, heavy barrel, S&W Model 13 is particularly nice. That is one of the best combat handguns ever made.
The RB and 3" tube makes it far more "packable" than a 4" square butt K-frame. The fixed sights will not get hung up on clothing or gear; nor will they get "out of adjustment". The 3" barrel allows for a longer sight radius than a 2" tube and you get a full length ejector rod in the deal. While those magnum K-frames shouldn't be fed magnum rounds exclusively, they will shoot a lifetime of 38 Special +P.

The only addition I would suggest is a Tyler "T" grip adaptor or a set of factory S&W combat grips. The Tyler grip adaptor will greatly improve the handling of the gun while maintaining its old school cool looks.

A model 65 with S&W Combat grips
and a 4" Model 10 with a Tyler T-grip adaptor:

You, sir, have excellent taste in revolvers.

For me, a civilian, revolvers just make more sense. I find them much easier to shoot precisely, faster on the draw and more reliable. As pointed out above, watching those wadcutter cluster together is very confidence inspiring. If things head south at O'darkThirty, I want my revolver and pump shotgun period.

Quite the gorgeous collection! The only one I've had is the Colt Detective Special, but mine, s/n AE5xxx, made in 1993, sports a two inch barrel. I'd wished for/hoped for/wished I could afford one like you have with that added inch barrel length, but as my older son oft' says, "it is what it is" -- with the 2-incher -- buy the story, not the gun, right? -- that it was the back-up for a LEO who bought it new in 1993, making it a relatively un-fired one-owner revolver.246470
