7.65x53 Argentine reduced load????

I found some surplus 147gr, 311, 7.62x54r FMJ bullets.
Helping someone with a 1909 long rifle.
Cases formed out of 30.06 cases.
Anyone have a suggestion for a reduced load????

No problem to find tips for reduced loads, here there are a lot of posts about. Before you would start a shooting session you have to cast your throat or you'll have some disappointment. My argentine carbine always was erratic on the target even with .314 lyman cast gas checked. My throat was .316 indeed. Now I'm looking for .318 pre WWI mauser bullets to swage .316.

If you use a push through and go in steps you can run a 323 down to 316. I did it for my 303 and they shot just fine.

2400 18grains works fine for me

I also use 18 gr of 2400 or 15 gr of Unique for loading the 147 - 150 milsurp .310/.311 bullet in both the 7.65 Argentine and the 303 Brit. I got the loads from Sharpe's Complete Guide To Handloading.

Ditto what Larry said. Sharpe is a great reference. The 18 grs. of #2400 works fine with military-pulled jacketed bullets, but also good for cast GC bullets which "fit", are well lubricated and about 13 BHN or a bit harder. I use 50-50 salvaged linotype and backstop scrap in my .303 British, which is of similar case capacity and accuracy is as good or better than ball ammo to 200 yards.

if you are doing cast bullets in my battered and tatered 45th lyman loading manual 155gr 311466 they list 12grs unique for starting and 15 at max.

For the 205gr 311299 you could get away with the 314299 same bullet some folks use for the 303 brit and 30-40 krag
unique 10 grs to start max is 13 grsunique

using 2400 start 20.0 and max is 24 grs


for the 311284 214 grs & 311290 214 grs unique start 19 grs and max is 23 grs
using 2400 start 19 max is 23 grs

imr4227 start 22grs max is 26 grs.
The highest velocities they got was a little under 2000 FPS Hope this helps. IMR 4759 was not listed. frank

Yes, that is with jacketed pull down 7.62x54R bullets weighing between 147 and 150 gr.

I like 30-06 2400 12 grn 165 grn PC'd no GC 0.309
Don't see why it wouldn't work in the 7.65 with a 170

New plan.
Along with the surplus 7.62x54r heads, I have some pulled powder from 7.65x53 Arg.
The load was 39.5gr per case.
Question is, how low can I go with this powder?????
Might be impossible to know, not knowing the burn rate.
He only shoots targets at 50 and 100yd.
Would also like to reduce the recoil.

I did the 13 gr red dot in a 7.65x53 Argentine and a 7.62 x 54 Nagant.
Had to raise the rear sight some. Shot at 100 yards, worked great and kicked less than a 22.

I had some nickel bullet Argy surplus that I pulled as well. Also had around 39 grains. I reloaded with 35 grains and experienced mild recoil, surprisingly good accuracy and around 2300fps from my 1909.
