Tom's latest homage to Elmer and the .44-40

Correct nose length for Colt Frontier Six Shooter and 1873

Substantial crimp groove for smokeless loads, to resist inertial dislodgement or "telescoping" by compression of magazine spring,

Base-to-Crimp length fits .44-40 bottleneck.

Large meplat with radiussed nose and full-diameter front driving band.

Ample lubricant capacity for BP or substitutes.

As much good work as SAECO #446 has done for me in 44/40 WCF, this design does "Call to me". I have yet to meet an Accurate Mold that I didn't like.

Isn't this the old Lyman 40188 with a bevel base.

While not bad, I think your doing Elmer Keith a disservice by calling that design anything similar to one of his own. The only similar characteristic is both being a semi-wadcutter.

Very close, yes.

Seems a bit reminiscent of the 452423 to me, a design that has always made me think "Elmer must have been extra mad at the world that day"

I agree that's what it looked like to me too.

I am wondering if it offers any useful advantage over lyman’s 427666, RCBS 428-200 CAS or even Lee’s 429-200RF to make it worthwhile. All of those designs are also crimp-able. I guess the SWC configuration would maybe make sharper holes in paper?

Advantage to me is that Accurate molds cast truer to size and weight and drop rounder bullets than the mass-market stuff.

I got rid of all my Lyman, RCBS and Lee molds years ago and would never go back.
