Can anyone tell me the year of manufacture for a S&W 15-3 with serial number 18K87xx? Can't find it in my reference books. Thanks.

Without looking, I'd say early to mid-70's.

Edit:
Just looked, 1967.

They were still pinning them in 77.

According to the link, my 15-3 was born in 1971. It is pinned. It rode along brush hogging this morning, with three shot loads and three Lee 105swc in the cylinder. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190721/65a9d8098a558a692b11fe268adb1aac.jpg

The 15-3 means a Model 15 with an 3rd engineering change. The change from 2 to 3 occurred in 1967 because of the Relocation of the rear sight leaf screw and ran until the 1977 4th engineering change of changing the gas ring from the yoke to the cylinder. I have the engineering changes numbers and dates but no serial number list. james

I didn’t see a single field rat. The tractor just has a roll bar/ roof- no cab. My Smith did come home dirty!
And will again.

Yup with no cab I made it a point to only carry ugly guns , they do get coated with a layer of dirt even pocket guns feel like they are full of sand after a day riding on the tractor.
I had one place I cut many times and a red tailed hawk would show up every time and catch the mice rats and toads.
