There are quite a few levers in my collection, but one of them that stands out is an 1894 Take Down octagon rifle in .30 WCF. Mfg in 1895, so the second year of production for the '94 model and the first year of production for the .30 WCF cartridge. Special order 3 leaf express rear sight and German silver tipped front sight. Excellent bore, decent wood, and a fair bit of original finish remaining. (It has a "sister" in the gun safe too ... an 1892 Take down octagon rifle, .44 WCF mfg about 1912, but I don't have any photos of it on hand.)

Only have one leveraction. Winchester 94 30-30 made in 1970. It's one of only 2 centerfire rifles. I don't want more than I can keep track of. Would like to add a couple thou, a winchester 71, a 22 rimfire, maybe a marlin 1895 45/70 or a 444.

Just off hand I have to admit that every one of them resembles a "lever action". I had never faced a question or the possibility that one or more might not; HHHMMMMMMMMMM??? Regardless of manufacturer or design....

I have over a dozen but do not shoot many of them. Most are Winchester collector guns. The ones shot the most are not Winchesters but three .38/.357's. Only one .22 and it is a Henry.

The above rifle came out of upper NY State, and was obviously someones well used but very well cared for deer rifle. Bore is great, and there are no noticeable nicks, dings, or bangs. Color cased action and the most finish wear is right there at the balance point where it was carried, at the action/barrel junction.

Alot of people are mentioning 94's. I didnt know that many people collected them as they are so popular. Probably one of the most owned rifles with the 336, i didnt think it was one of the most collected too!

bob208

I thought that too the only ones I was thinking of were the more common 1950-1964 models. then I learned about the early model 94. the variations are endless. I have 10 carbines no two are alike. there are different sights short tang long tang flat band round band different but plates. then if you find one like I have. it looks like a well used standard model carbine but it has the flying bomb and stamped u.s. government property n.w.m.p.

then you get into the rifles.

Two Marlin 39s, two 336s (.30-30 & a .35 Rem which was Dad's last deer rifle), two very early 99s.

Can't really consider it a collection, but three Winchester lever actions live here: a Model 1873 chambered for .38 W.C.F.; a Model 1895 chambered for the short-lived .30 Gov't 1903; and a Miroku Model 1895 chambered for .30-06.

marlin models didnt think it was one of the most collected too! They aren't ~~ yet. Oh there are a few 336 preferred models. And those older models made before the 336. 1893-1936-36 & those 35 Rem cartridge shooters all have a following including those pre-button J-engraved models too. Otherwise the newer marlins are worth 1/2 their retail price or less. Than again the value of anything "is seen in the eyes of the beholder."
The only reason pre-64 Win's and Savage's 99s are indeed collectable. There no longer made. Otherwise the 94 Win is without a doubt one bad-news shoulder bruiser.

We choose the value of everything. Imagine everyone waking up and feeling like old stuff isn't worth anything so all our old guns would be 100$

I like it. The 44 is a great lever cartridge.
I need to get it out more. The 24" Oct barrel is great for offhand shooting. It just doesn't make it to the range very often. I'm thinking about ordering a Skinner sights for it.

I have the 1895 round barrel. It had the cancer safety on it. So i got the daftey delete, buffed out the huge warning on the barrel and added a sling. I like old guns better, but i would say this marlin is my least favorite. It's a shame I can see the machine marks on the boot and receiver. The finish just isn't there. My wood is nice though.

I was a collector of Winchester Takedown rifles and High Walls until about 1995 or 96 when I sold most of the collectible Winchesters. These pictures are of my earlier efforts to collect Winchesters. The safe was a Cannon 72 rifle safe, which was used for levers. There was a second smaller safe for other guns. I no longer need the big safe, sadly that is.

These are pictures from late 1970's and early 1980's, sorry for the poor condition of the film pictures. There are mostly 94's a couple 95's, one 1885 Low Wall 22 LR, and one deluxe 53 44-40 which came with a Winchester leather takedown case and a Winchester sling. There are a couple of solid frames in the pictures but most are TD's.
I am looking for some pictures of a display of my takedown Winchesters and Single Shot Sporting rifles and Schuetzen style 1885's that was in the Anchorage Gun Show in 1988 where my display took Best in Show and the Peoples Choice awards. If I find those pictures I will post them.
Of note in that display was a 1885 standard rifle, #3 barrel, standard straight stock and sites and trigger, with a Shotgun butt. That rifle was a 50 Express and was unfired. The second single shot of note was a 1885 High Wall not a Low Wall, in 22 LR with a #4 Barrel, which was documented as being used internally in the Winchester Ammunition department for ammunition testing.
I sold my collectibles to one party in two sales for a good price. Wish I had the collection now as it would be worth in the neighborhood of $250K
I still have some shooters in Winchesters and Savage 1899 rifles. I will post some pictures of these, of note is a Savage 1899 Deluxe 303.
