Hello all I picked up a mystery Uberti revolver today and I’m trying to figure out what I have. It’s a 7.5” SAA, serial number L39, the date code shows 1969. The barrel is marked .44 WCF for .44-40. The gun shop I got it from said a .44-40 wouldn’t fit in the cylinder so they put .44 special on the tag. But they did not have any .44 special ammo to check. The cylinder does not have a serial number whereas my new uberti .45 Colt SAA does. I’m guessing maybe somebody at some point swapped in a .44 special cylinder because ammo was more readily available than .44-40. Hopefully that’s the case as I have dies and brass for .44 special. I just need to pick up a mold and sizer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A shooting bud has one. It came with two cylinders, 44 Special and another for the 44/40. My guess and it's only a guess. The previous owner probably lost a cylinder. I strongly suggest slugging the bore before you size your castings.

Thanks. I slugged the bore and got .428-.4285. I also tried an empty .44 special case and it fits just fine. I don’t have any .429 bullets so I couldn’t test fit a loaded round.
