Electric boiling ring to melt?

It's nearly time for me to start a new casting session again. A question for anyone that knows, will a 1500 watt electric boiling ring under a cast iron or stainless steel pot do the job? I don't know of the fact that UK voltage is 240 volts as opposed to US voltage being 110. What'dyall think?

Yes it will melt it but keeping the temp steady may be tricky.

I use a 1000 W ring and a cast iron pot to make my alloy mixes and small ingots for a small pot that I cast with. Cover it with aluminum foil to speed up melting. I melt ~ 40-50 pounds each time and flux several times. It gets hot but takes a while.

More than adequate power. Insulated 20 lb Lee pot uses a 700 watt heater. When you talk about UK 220VAC don't use a US 120VAC, 1500 Watt heating element in the UK because the current will be doubled through the element and it will probably burn up.

I use a 30,000 BTU torch connected to a propane tank for melting scrap lead from the recyclable scrap yards - then melt it in a cast iron pot and ladle the melt into ingots for casting

I have used a Primus style stove (kerosene) to melt smaller batches of lead. I've also used a single-burner propane camp stove.

Either would be more efficient than electric, but I suppose one must use what one has available.

I'm not familiar with UK laws, but I use a turkey fryer burner with a 20 # lp gas tank for smelting and a Lee 10# 120v furnace for casting boolits.

I used an electric single ring to smelt my lead for ingots then use a Lee 10lb pot for casting .got to get another as it died when I moved house .
