CCI bench rest primers

Gave a friend some CCI bench rest primers.
I've never tried them.
Not needed with cast boolet loads I use.
He said they were a very tight fit. Hard to seat.
Anyone have any experience with these????

Just seated 500 in Federal .308 brass with a Lee hand priming tool with no difficulties at all.

I can almost venture to say it's the variety of brass out there, not the primers. I use a lot of Winchester LR primers. Some cases they want to fall out, others they fit like "socks on a rooster". I've seen this with Tula, S&B, Federal and CCI. So hate to say it, but it's "one more thing" I have to keep track of UGGH!

Are they the old ones in the very small light blue packages? I've found those to be a tight fit, too.

fit the same as std primers,cant feel any difference

I found no difference. Maybe it was the brand of brass being used.

They're probably '70s-'80s. I know they were packaged like that in the '80s. Not sure when they went to the current very dark blue packaging.

I was visiting with Jimmy Mitchell, the 1911 'smith, at an Area 2 USPSA match. We were talking about primers not inserting smoothly in the Dillon 650. I had been using primarily Federal primers and would lose 1 or 2 per 100 due to them going into the pocket crooked. He convinced me to try the newer CCI primers. The older CCIs catch and snag on insertion about the same as the Federals. Most of the ammo loaded on the 650 is .40 S&W using mixed brass. I found that in my Dillon 650 the newer CCIs run flawlessly. In my RCBS bench priming tool or Lee priming tool all primers run just fine. I use CCI small rifle and small pistol primers and have had excellent feeding with both. I have no explanation for the difference; just observations.

Yep, it's the Brass.

Stick with American Made Brass. Or Good foreign stuff, such as Norma or RWS/DWM.

Other imported stuff such as S&B and CBC give problems. Not worth the aggravation.
